The myrtle is also known as myrtle, thanks to the family to which this tree belongs, which is Myrtus Communis, while the aromatic oil that is extracted from it is called Mirtol, similar to eucalyptus, with tannins that make it astringent.

It grows in the temperate forests of Chile and Argentina, especially along water courses. Over most of its range it grows as a highly branched shrub, about 3-5 m high.

Its bark is brown when the tree is young and orange when it is adult; It is covered by a layer of hairy and silky texture that comes off on contact.

Its leaves are simple, round or oval in shape; bright on the upper surface and ending in a spicule or mucron, dark green on the upper side and light on the lower side, leathery. It produces hermaphroditic flowers in groups of 3 to 5 units, white or slightly pink and aromatic, up to two centimeters in diameter, gathered in groups of 3 to 5, with very evident stamens. Corolla with 4 large petals. Its berries are edible.
