Tepejilote palm seeds (Chamaedorea tepejilote Liebm) - 40 pack
Tepejilote palm seeds (Chamaedorea tepejilote Liebm)
Pack of 40 Tepejilote strawberry palm seeds, collected this season.
The tepejilote is a palm that has one of the thickest and tallest trunks of all the Chamaedoreas with approximately 7.6 cm in diameter and reaches heights of 6.5 m or more. The green-ringed trunk with white scars at the base of the leaves has visual affinities with bamboo stems, especially when planted en masse.
Long, wide, tapered "S" -shaped leaflets (also known as falcados) fall from the rachis (or slant a bit) in a relaxed way that just screams the rainforest palm. The leaflets of this species are thinner than most, with prominent streaks. Although many 'bamboo-like' Chamaedoreas have a pale line along the ventral surface of the petiole, it is the most pronounced in this species and is a feature that can help identify it.
Some nutritionists suggest that its nutritional value is high, it is a source of vitamins and minerals, such as iron, calcium, phosphorus and especially fiber. Nutritionists say that it is better to eat it on the grill because the cover protects its nutritional properties; It should be noted that tepejilote in Mexico is used in traditional medicine against diabetes and is confirmed as a hypoglycemic plant; In a study by the Universidad del Atlántico in Colombia and the Guatemala Natural Products Research Center, the activity of this palm in the disease was evaluated with the lyophilized aqueous extract of the male inflorescences of Chamaedorea Tepejilote Liebm; in normoglycemic mice with positive results.
